Volkswagen owners have long complained about potential faults with their vehicles DSG gearbox but haven’t received a great deal of official feedback from VW. Now VW are recalling over 640,000 vehicles in China owing to gearbox and engine faults with the majority of vehicles being the popular VW Golf and Lavida models as well as over 18,000 imported vehicles from both the VW and Audi product range.

The issue stems from the synthetic oil used in the gearbox which is causing electric malfunctions in certain high heat and humidity conditions according to Volkswagen. All of the vehicles will have their vehicles gearboxes flushed and replaced with mineral oil to solve the issue.

Volkswagen are also prepping to recall 207,000 SUV’s in China due to a possible defect with the lights, with the announcement being made a day earlier. The DSG recall is part of a global recall which affects 2.6 million cars worldwide. Cars with the problematic DSG transmissions can drop out of gear, decelerate suddenly and be at serious risk of being struck from behind if they are in traffic.
